For Freedom Boat Club MembersU.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary About Boating Safely

    Welcome:

Our information is that the Freedom Boat Club requires their members to complete an online course and obtain the Florida Boaters ID before they can take out a boat, then gives the members up to 90 days to complete a classroom based course such as ours or the Power Squadron's. We normally have 8-16 Freedom Boat Club members per class.

There is some repetition between our course and the online course, but we cover much more than what is in the online course. We stress what is important for boating in our South Florida coastal waters, something the online courses cannot do.

We present the most professional course in the area. We select the best instructors for the subject and promise that we will not bore you or waste your time. Most of our instructors are USCG Auxiliary Coxswains and USCG Auxiliary Pilots and are active in Search And Rescue. In order to insure the best presentation, we have created a team of instructors from two local units.

We have the financial support of the Monica Burguera Foundation. The foundation is dedicated to promoting safety on the water and provides us with an excellent location and pays for the class. The Foundation was created in memory of Mónica Burguera, a 20 year old girl who died in a boating accident in the 2006 Columbus Day Weekend Festivities in Miami, Florida. The accident took the lives of Mónica and James Noel Pou and left many others seriously injured. After this fatal accident, Mónica’s family and close friends realized the importance of boating safety education. In 2009 Mr. and Mrs. Burguera decided to register the non-profit organization “Mónica Burguera Foundation”.

    Course Hours

The building opens at 8:00 AM and classes start promptly at 08:30 AM. Come early and meet your instructors and join us for coffee and pastries. We break for lunch from Noon to 1:00 PM. The class ends by 4:30 PM.

    Exam

There is a short mandatory exam at the end of the class. As soon as you complete the exam it will be graded and you will receive your U.S.C.G. Auxiliary Certificate and U.S.C.G. Auxiliary Wallet Card. You may leave as soon as your exam is graded.
